Product Testing and Quality Control

Giving You Peace of Mind

Each of our wheelset models undergoes more than a dozen performance, reliability, and safety tests before being released. All of our offerings go far beyond the UCI, ISO, and EN standards. In addition, all of our rims and wheels have undergone strict quality control throughout the production process.

Laboratory Testing

All of our wheels have undergone the following tests and more:

  1. UCI Vertical Impact Test (40 Joules)
  2. Particle Standard Vertical Impact Test (90 Joules)
  3. Lateral Stiffness of the Rim Test
  4. Radial Stiffness of the Rim Test
  5. Lateral Stiffness of the Wheel Test
  6. Radial Stiffness of the Wheel Test
  7. Lateral Runout of the Rim Test
  8. Radial Runout of the Rim Test
  9. Spoke Hole Maximum Pull-Through Test
  10. Maximum Tire Pressure Test
  11. 10,000km Rough Surface Test
  12. Torque Fatigue Test
  13. High Speed Stability Test

Rim Production Quality Control

Carbon rims are usually handmade, and what sets apart a good quality rim from a mediocre one is complicated. Each rim factory employs their own quality control process and standards, quality of materials, and manufacturing techniques. While much of this information is confidential. At Particle, we settled on a few factories that we felt employed the best manufacturing techniques and who provided excellent quality control without cutting corners. Here is a partial list of the quality control checks our rims have undergone.

  1. Weighing the rim at every stage of production
  2. Final weighing within ±15 grams
  3. Check for voids
  4. Inspect for wrinkling
  5. Re-heat rims at high temperature for a high duration to increase durability
  6. Check each spoke hole is free from resin and wrinkles
  7. Check for excess resin or particulate in the rim
  8. Inspect rim roundness
  9. Check for visible imperfections
  10. Check for contamination

Final Checks and Procedures

Before each wheelset is shipped, there are final checks and procedures to ensure they are fit for everyday riders and competitive athletes alike. Here is a partial list:

  1. Wheelset weight within ±30 grams
  2. Stress relieving and re-truing the wheels to prevent them from going out of true
  3. 140 PSI max tire pressure test for front and rear wheel
  4. Wheel deformation at 150 PSI (within 0.25mm for lateral runout)
  5. Lateral and radial runout (within 0.25mm)
  6. Check for visual imperfections
  7. Check for excess particulate in the rim
